OUR PROJECT

ART

Art is another language children use to express what they know and what they feel.  Give children hands-on experiences with as wide a variety of materials as possible, and they gain confidence in creative expression and an enthusiasm for learning as they discover their talents and abilities.  Children can create and represent their ideas in a visual form.  Children will acquire the basic vocabulary of art and design while working on independent and collaborative projects. They will draw, paint, make prints, and sculpt with clay and other materials. They will work in many styles and make the experiences multi-sensory whenever possible.

MATH

Math is learned best through everyday experiences that occur in children’s natural environment.  Young children begin by being introduced to concrete mathematical materials that allow a progression from concrete to abstract concepts through play and experimentation.  It is important for children to interact with real objects before they understand meaning of such symbols as letters and numbers. This curriculum is designed to apply math to real life situations through creative hands-on projects, games, and manipulation, promoting practical experience to become familiar with the sorting, matching and pairing skills, ordering, classifying, sequencing, and counting activities to place objects in logical ways, forming the basis for early mathematics.  The children will be assisted to identify objects by shape, position, size, volume, and number to stimulate their thinking and inspire them to solve problems to establish a solid foundation in mathematical reasoning.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Children naturally like to move and sing in the early years of their lives. Our movement curriculum strives to offer the children many fun and creative ways to move and exercise.  This field will be working on balance, movement, and hand-eye coordination in a fun and safe environment. A range of equipment and opportunities both indoors and out allows the children to develop confidence and enjoyment of their own body skills.  With supervision the children are safely able to create and meet physical challenges, developing increasing skill and control in moving, climbing, and balancing. The children are supported in the development of their fine motor skills that help them to handle tools, pencils, small objects, etc., with control and precision.  Physical exercise as a daily routine helps to learn about team-building:  good listeners, follow directions, cooperate in a group while gaining fine and gross motor proficiency, strengthen manipulative and sports skills to build an active lifestyle. For these reasons, body movement is fun for young children and presents a good opportunity for them to solve problems. Also, it exposes children to physical science concepts by offering them balls, ramps, tubes, water wheels, funnels, and sifters and by taking an interest in how they use these materials.

SCIENCE

Science is all about exploration and discovery. This space is designed to captivate the curious nature of young children.  Preschoolers are always questioning about how things works and they are always enthusiastic to explore topics that are relevant to their everyday lives.  They have an eager interest in the earth, the natural environment, the way that other people lives, the physical properties of objects, and the nature of living things.  Children learn about the world around them through hands-on investigation.  They love to explore their surroundings through interest and curiosity and to investigate living things.  Young children enjoy engaging demonstrations and performing simple experiments. Children like to question, to observe, to select and manipulate objects and materials to proof, and to explain and to figure out conclusions; these are important factors for this workshop.  They learn about physical and natural laws and the correct scientific terms as they learn and develop a clearer understanding of cause and effect while investigating water, rocks, magnets, plants, and animals.

LITERATURE

Children succeed in environments that support language and literacy through play, daily interactions, and important relationships with adults and other children.  This workshop will encourage children to develop both the desire and ability to read to the fullest potential.  Based on phonics, it includes mind mapping, word families, literature appreciation, and the building of sight and speaking vocabulary.  Reading has to be approached with a combination of phonetic and whole language methods.  Children will practice these skills reading a selection of age- and level-appropriate chapter books.  Listening to stories improves children’s ear for grammar and the structure of language. Creating and illustrating stories develop their artistic creativity and imagination.  Spelling lessons will be incorporated focusing on decoding skills and vocabulary development.  Young students are encouraged to use writing as a tool for thinking and learning.

MUSIC

Music education enhances the natural appreciation that children have for music.  CIRCLETIME wants them to use music for entertainment and relaxation.  This field involves listening, responding, singing, joining in, moving in rhythm, and playing percussion instruments while building a solid foundation of musical skills for everyone.  Children also work on gross motor development moving to the music and participating in other movement activities and explore the many ways their bodies can move.  They learn that movement can communicate messages and represent actions.  The children will learn traditional nursery rhymes and songs with actions, finger rhymes, and drama.  Music and movement help children develop a sense of patterns.  Singing also has many benefits.  It helps develop language, keep people feeling happy, and enhances auditory discrimination.  Musical learners approach new ideas with song, dance, and rhythm.
